All clinicians (doctors and nurses) at Byfield Medical Centre will give due consideration to privacy and dignity when examining and treating patients. All consulting rooms have curtains around the examination couches. We direct patients to undress behind the curtains for examination or treatment. Our policy is based on the GMC's guidance - Intimate Examinations, November 1996. We offer a chaperone when examination or treatment involves undressing by the patient to expose:
- Breasts in female patients
- Anal / Perineum area
Also, for some examinations, eg Fundoscopy, it will be necessary to darken the room.
